Hi, I’m Sam!

And these are my kiddos: Boo, Basil and Clémentine.

Real talk: Ask me to do an icebreaker and I’ll want to crawl into a hole and die.

But I LOVE connecting one-on-one with other “animal people”.

I’ve been a professional pet portrait photographer for over 6 years. I’m accredited in both canine and feline portraiture with the Professional Photographers of Canada, and I’ve won a number of international photography awards.

The end result of a photo session with me custom-designed artwork that represents your pets’ unique personality.

The Details

How it Works

Your experience is fully customized based on your pet’s personality and your preferences. Here are the steps to creating your perfect art:

  1. Planning Meeting (on Zoom in late May)
    • Objective: Get to know you and your pet(s), learn about your style and preferences, co-design your session, make sure you’re prepared and ready for your portrait session.
  2. Portrait Session (60-90 minutes on June 6 or 7)
    • Objective: Have fun and create incredible images.
  3. Ordering Appointment ( on Zoom ~2 weeks later)
    • Objective: Review the images from the session. Explore artwork possibilities using to-scale mockups of your walls. Place your artwork order and submit payment.
  4. Art Delivery (mid-late July)

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I keep my pet on a leash during the photo session?

Absolutely – Almost every dog or cat I photograph outdoors has their leash on. With a touch of editing artistry, I seamlessly remove the leashes in post-production, leaving you with elegant, natural-looking portraits.

Safety is my top priority, and keeping your pet on-leash not only ensures their well-being but also helps us adhere to local leash laws and achieve the perfect seemingly-impossible poses.

  • Does my pet need to be well trained to have a great photo session?

No training is require whatsoever. Your photo session is a fun and relaxed, where your pet can just be themselves. If they’re a bit wild, even better. I love capturing all aspects of your pet’s personality to create images that reflect their true self.

I’ve photographed every kind of pet. From nervous cats, to deaf and blind senior dogs. No matter your pet’s level training or temperament, I’ll create beautiful portraits of them.

  • Can you photograph my nervous/shy/reactive pet?

    Almost always, yes.

Together, we’ll design a session that sets your pet up for success, ensuring they feel comfortable and confident. Usually, this involves choosing a familiar location, taking lots of time to help them feel comfortable, using a longer lens at the session to keep some distance, and reinforcing your pet’s bravery with plenty of treats and praise.

  • How do you handle pet with special needs or disabilities?

Since your session is custom-designed, I will ensure that everything is suited to fit your pet… not the other way around.

Whether your pet faces mobility limitations, sensory challenges, or just typical issues for senior pets, we’ll create a session that allows them to be themselves and have a great time.

  • How do you choose the location for the photo session?

I have a list of my favourite Ottawa locations, but we’ll choose your location together.

Before your photo session, we’ll have a Planning Meeting where we’ll talk about you and your pet, your style, and your vision for the portraits. This info will help us choose the best location for you.

  • How can I snag one of these Ottawa session?

Booking your session is easy! Fill out the form above and I’ll be in touch within 24 hours. We’ll go over the details, answer any questions you have, take payment for the Session Fee and secure your session in my calendar.

  • I'm not available June 4th. Can we do it a different day?

No, I’m only in Ottawa on June 6-7. No other days are available for sessions.

  • Can I be included in some of the photographs with my pet??

Absolutely – I highly encourage capturing moments of you together. Those photographs can be incredibly meaningful.

On the session day, I’ll create a variety of images for your to choose from. During your Ordering Appointment, you’ll choose and purchase only the photographs that you absolutely love. If for any reason you prefer not to purchase them, we will focus solely on your favourite portraits of your cat or dog.

Sam captured their personalities in stunning photos.

“Sam is a true animal lover and it totally shows in her interactions with my cats. She was able to capture their personalities in stunning photos. It was important to me that the photos be representative of who my cats are, and not just a picture or them. Her work is extremely professional and very high quality through and through. 10/10 would recommend!.”
